Wellness
Coaching for Women with Cancer
article by Dr. Jenniver Levin
Modern medicine describes a significant number of cancers that
primarily hit women, the most notable of which is breast cancer.
While each year tens of thousands of women die from breast cancer,
over three million women currently live with or have previously
faced breast cancer. These numbers reflect the enormous importance
to women of understanding and dealing with the life changing effects
of cancer.
As
part of the wellness coaching program, Dr.
Jennifer Levin of Pasadena provides a life coaching
program specifically for women facing cancer or other life-changing
illnesses using her 12 years of experience with hundreds of women
with cancer. The goal of this wellness coaching program is to help
women understand how their experiences have and will change their
life and to help them learn from their experiences. Many women go
on to live rich, full lives and continue to pursue the passions
of and beauty within life.
Cancer
in women can be devastating in many ways. As one part of the body
attacks and invades the whole, other bodily systems can respond
defensively or give up in resignation. The medical solution to cancer
can also be as hard on the body as the cancer, ranging from a chemical
attack on the entire body to surgical invasion and removal of defining
sections of the body. Battling cancer additionally affects the mind
as well: many women feel desperate or depressed, and, if left untreated,
the negativity and fear can affect their outlook on life for many
years to come.
While
cancer is a difficult experience, it can also be a great learning
experience. For many women, cancer is a reminder that they are still
alive, still strong, and still beautiful, despite what challenges
they may face. Wellness coaching is a catalyst that encourages women
to make the most of life, not because life is short, but because
life is beautiful and has so much to offer.
For
those in the midst of the battle, wellness
coaching is about celebrating each day, celebrating
each moment, and appreciating the joys of life. It is about understanding
and accepting the disease without giving up. Fighting cancer can
be a time of enormous personal growth and is often a time of great
healing or coming together for families. Wellness coaching helps
women to face their fears with strength and to continue to live
a life in accordance with their values, aspirations, and loves.
