Personal
Development Coach
article by Dr. Jennifer Levin
Many people who hear about Personal Development Coaching ask about
the nature of the program- Is it a counseling program? What does
a personal development coach do? Who can benefit from having a personal
development coach? This section will address these questions and
others in hopes of providing an introduction to development and
wellness coaching.
Personal
Development Coaching is one of several of the I
Will Prevail Wellness Coaching programs offered through by
Dr. Jennifer Levin of Pasadena. Other programs include wellness
coaching for women with cancer, fulfillment and body
acceptance coaching. The these programs are different
from traditional counseling in that these have broader goals and
are more focused on improving overall quality of life.
The
goal of development coaching is to enhance all aspects of life and
improve health by looking both at a specific area of focus and at
current skill sets and previous accomplishments. With this knowledge
of strengths and weaknesses, the coach guides and helps form a plan
for improving life. From an outside perspective, the coach can see
self-defeating attitudes and actions to which a client may be blind.
The goal is to move forward in life and take action. When no longer
fighting one’s own actions, people are able to make significant
progress towards goals and rapidly overcome barriers. A development
coach may also design interactive or practice sessions that facilitate
reaching a specific goal. The private
coaching sessions can also be supplemented with group
wellness coaching or group classes; strength can be gained from
appreciating how others are working towards the same goals.
The
results of person development coaching or life
coaching are seen from the first day, as one of the
most important goals is a deeper understanding of oneself. Exploring,
appreciating, and loving self are both goals and processes of the
program. Most people finish their development coaching with both
greater confidence in their strengths and a greater appreciation
for the positive aspects of each day. They also experience increased
self-confidence by appreciating those things that they already do
well and enjoying continuous improvement in new areas. Improved
health is another added benefit, as any doctor will testify that
the state of mind is just as important to health as the state of
body.
